Lasix (Brand)

Lasix (Furosemide) is a powerful diuretic or water pill. It eliminates excess water and salt from the body by preventing their re-absorption before being excreted as urine. How does Lasix (Furosemide) work?

Salt, water and other small molecules are filtered out of the blood by the kidneys. This filtered fluid ultimately becomes urine, but before this happens most of the sodium and water get re-absorbed into the blood. Lasix (Furosemide) works by preventing this re-absorption, which drastically increases the production of urine. By eliminating excess water and salt from the body this way, Lasix (Furosemide) helps reduce high blood pressure and prevent related conditions, such as strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems.
